Welcome back to the Mystic Oaks blog! Lately, we have been talking about the types of procedures that our cosmetic dentist can provide. Cosmetic dentistry isn’t just about looking good; cosmetic procedures can protect your teeth, prolong their health, and give you a better quality of life through the new opportunities a smile brings. Even though there is a lot of evidence pointing at the benefits of cosmetic dentistry, having a fear of the dentist can seemingly outweigh all those benefits. Today, we are going to give you some tips to stay calm at the dentist.

Colored Glasses

One of the most disorienting and uncomfortable things about being at the dentist for anyone, whether you are afraid of the dentist or not, is the bright lights. To work, the dentist needs bright lights. However, these bright lights can magnify the tension that someone who feels uncomfortable at the dentist already feels. Some dentists have glasses that you can wear that not only dim the lights, but also can keep debris out of your eyes as they clean your teeth. Ask them if they have a pair you can wear when you make the appointment.

Televisions

Many modern dentist offices have televisions that you can watch as you undergo your dental procedures. You can watch shows on HGTV and other cable channels. Some dentists even allow you to bring your own movies in! Not only can watching TV calm your mind and help time spent at the dentist go by faster, but it can also help you take advantage of time away from your job and other responsibilities.

Calming Music

Listening to calming music can be another way to stay calm while at the dentist. Some offices play calming music, while others may allow you to listen to your own playlist. It is important that you can still hear the dentist when they speak to you or have questions. However, listening to your favorite calming music can drown out some of the noise that is created during a cleaning or other procedure and distract your mind. You could even listen to an audio book!
