Hello and welcome back to the Mystic Oaks Family Dentistry blog! In our last blog post, we talked about reasons why you should visit the dentist. It’s easy to skip yearly or six-month cleaning appointments because your teeth may feel fine, and what’s another six months or a year or even a couple years of not going to the dentist? Not going to your regular dental appointments can be incredibly detrimental to your overall health and can create serious problems that will take more time, more pain, and possibly more money to alleviate the issue. If you’re overdue to go to the dentist in Wesley Chapel, we highly suggest that you go soon. You only get one set of teeth, and what’s more attractive than a pretty, healthy smile?
Going to the dentist regularly is just the beginning of having great dental health. Caring for your teeth takes making daily dental habits part of your daily routine. Today on our blog, we are going to talk about the habits that you should adopt to keep your teeth looking and feeling great.
Brushing regularly is part of dental health 101. Ideally, you should brush after every meal. However, we understand that most simply don’t have time to do that. We recommend brushing at least twice a day. Brushing removes those foods and drinks that stick to our pearly whites and this habit helps to remove those particles that can get stuck under our gums and on our teeth. When you brush, be sure to brush in a circular motion and to avoid brushing your teeth too hard, which can lead to gum recession.
If you struggle with going to the dentist and brushing, we understand that asking you to floss may seem out of the question, but hear us out. Flossing is crucial for your teeth and gums to remain in good health. Brushing your teeth only removes some of the food particles that get stuck in our gums and between our teeth. Flossing will not only help your gums to look their best, but you will also avoid the many negative effects of gum disease and other more serious gum dental considerations. Though flossing a couple times a day is best, flossing once a day before you go to bed is a great daily dental habit to adopt. Also, want to avoid bad breath? Start flossing!
Mouthwash is a great supplement to the basic dental habits of brushing and flossing. Using mouthwash doesn’t just help you not have bad breath, but it also aids in reducing the acidity of your mouth and can help in cleaning those areas of your mouth that are hard to reach. Mouthwash also has remineralizing properties that can help keep your teeth healthy and strong. Use mouthwash after you brush and floss and enjoy a fresh and clean mouth.
